Primary Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke

Estrogen2
In postmenopausal women, estrogen replacement therapy (ERT or HRT) should be considered with caution, especially in patients with multiple coronary risk factors such as an elevated LDL cholesterol. A physician’s recommendation should be individualized consistent with the patient’s other health risks and the benefits of ERT/HRT. Younger women who smoke should be advised of the risk of smoking while taking birth control pills.
