“[NT-proBNP] is a general indicator of reduced cardiac performance rather than a specific indicator of systolic function…ongoing myocardial damage (ie, minimal troponin elevation), time since start of myocardial ischemia and damage, and the inflammatory response (ie, CRP elevation) were related to the magnitude of elevation of NT-proBNP…Mortality increased exponentially throughout the entire spectrum of NT-proBNP levels…”f

Enhancing the Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics leadership position in cardiac markers and enriching an already comprehensive cardiac disease state panel that includes cardiac troponin I, hsCRP and myoglobin, the NT-proBNP assay is used to risk stratify patients with Acute Coronary Syndromes (ACS) and Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), and is also an aid in diagnosing CHF. Now you have even more of a reason to select Siemens for your total cardiac solution.
In keeping with our unique, singular focus on the laboratory, Siemens continues a tradition of innovation, reliability and responsiveness in providing high quality laboratory products and services. People you can count on. Solutions you need.
Enhancing the Management of ACS and CHF—
NT-proBNP, the Automated Solution
Meeting Needs From the Emergency Department to the Central Laboratory
ACS patients without ST-segment elevation have a significant level of mortality within 1 year.2 Therefore, it is critical to accurately identify and provide the appropriate care for the high-risk ACS population. NT-proBNP provides critical prognostic insight to the assessment of ACS patients, even those with non-ST-segment elevation.1
Diagnosing CHF is also a significant problem because the typical presenting symptoms, dyspnea and/or fatigue, are common to several other disease states, including pulmonary embolism and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).3 Like the natriuretic peptide BNP, NT-proBNP is a valuable aid in the diagnosis of CHF correlating well with all four of the New York Heart Association’s (NYHA) functional classes.4 Further, changes in NT-proBNP concentrations can be used to evaluate the success of treatment in patients with left ventricular dysfunction.5
